"STEAM work is TEAM work!" -3rd Grade Student

STEAM is all about working together. It is using the Scientific Method, researching on computers, designing a blueprint, building, testing, and learning from our mistakes. It is sometimes frustrating, and sometimes we don't succeed, but it is always fun! We love S.T.E.A.M. because we get to work together in groups. Every time Mrs. McMillan has S.T.E.A.M projects on our schedule, we get excited. We even do S.T.E.A.M. in Math class and at home for homework. Some of our projects are for Social Studies--like our Native American houses--some are for Science--like our Emergency weather kits--some are for Language Arts--like our bridges--and some are for Religion--like learning about and building Christmas trees. We can do S.T.E.A.M. for every subject. One of our favorites this year was our sidewalk robots from our S.T.E.A.M. program, Rozzy. We got to design and build robot food delivery prototypes. (We also learned that a prototype is a model of the real thing). It was hard, but it was so cool! After each project is done, we always report about what we learned by writing paragraphs about it. We also talk about how to improve our projects, and nominate our team members for specific awards such as: best communicator, best innovator, and best problem solver. Having S.T.E.A.M. at our school is super awesome!
